Tanner McAteer

Guitar, Banjo, Drums, After-School Program


Tanner McAteer is a multi-instrumentalist teacher and performer with over ten years of experience as a music instructor. Originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina, he learned guitar and began playing in rock bands at age 15. After high school he worked and played in bands for several years before deciding to attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington were he studied classical guitar and music education. He then got an assistantship at Appalachian State University where he received a Master’s in guitar performance. He has an enduring passion for music and has picked up several other instruments after guitar, including drums, ukulele, banjo, harmonica and piano. As an educator he believes in meeting students where they are at and helping them achieve their goals, as well as providing insight and inspiration through the imparting of skills and knowledge that have come with years of experience. He is a strong proponent of teaching the fundamentals while keeping an eye on the big picture so as to give students the skills they need to build toward success as they define it.
